Phasal Verbs
The seven Qohenje aspects take up much of the functional rôle of phasal verb formations in other languages (to have started doing, to have finished doing, to still be doing... etc.). Nevertheless, Qohenje syntax allows a nominalization to be the LM of a set of verbals with specifically "phasal" senses not captured in the aspectual system itself. Such formations are common for inceptive predications ("starting to do") with the verbal , for instance,
This formation may seem perplexing. A literal translation gives "I am in a state of [finished-starting] the process of reading the book". Or consider,
These constructions are normal complex sentences, except that in the case of these four phasal verbs, the LM clitic is invariably the AB , and is hence optional:
The phasal verb is a normal lexeme, and is hence amenable to the normal range of tense and aspect modifications:
The second example here has the AB clitic elipsed. As the nominalized phrase consists only of a simple lexeme, many speakers would treat this as a simple nominal, and would hence inflect it as a LM:
